IOSS Explained
The Import One-Stop Shop (IOSS) is a European Union (EU) scheme designed to simplify VAT collection on goods imported into the EU from outside the region. Here’s how it works and how it benefits our EU customers:
1. Simplified VAT Payment
- The IOSS allows us to collect, declare, and pay VAT directly at the point of sale when selling goods valued at €150 or less to EU customers. This VAT payment is collected at checkout, meaning customers won’t be hit with additional charges or delays due to VAT collection at the border.
- For EU customers, this means greater transparency, as they know the total cost of their purchase upfront, and there's no need for them to handle VAT payments upon delivery.
2. Avoids Extra Handling Fees and Delays
- Without IOSS, VAT will typically be collected when the goods enter the EU, which often results in customs delays and potential handling fees imposed by the courier or postal service.
- By using IOSS, we are able to provide a faster and smoother delivery process for our EU customers, since the goods will pass through customs more efficiently without unexpected charges or delays.
3. Applicable to Goods Valued at €150 or Less
- IOSS only applies to goods with a consignment value (the item price, excluding shipping) of €150 or below. For goods over €150, VAT is not charged at checkout, and will typically be collected at customs instead.
Benefits for EU Customers
- No surprise fees: You won’t face additional VAT or handling fees at delivery.
- Faster delivery: Goods clear customs quicker without the need for VAT collection at the border.
